Gender Selection is offered in a few alternative methods at North Cyprus IVF:
1) MicroSort IUI for Gender Selection
This treatment method is very much like conventional IUI apart from the fact that male partner’s sperm is sorted into X and Y bearing cells through the MicroSort procedure. The MicroSorted sperm is then used for artificial insemination where it is injected intra-uterine.
MicroSort for gender selection with IUI treatment has 90% accuracy for gender selection for a girl and 75% accuracy for gender selection for a boy. Regarding success rates, MicroSort IUI has similar success rates to IUI treatment success rates, which is about 20-25% for women younger than 35 years of age, and about 8-10% for women older than 35 years of age. It should be kept in mind that MicroSort IUI may need several attempts before pregnancy can be achieved.
2) MicroSort IVF for Gender Selection
This treatment option is more like regular IVF-ICSI treatment. The male partner’s sperm is sorted into X and Y bearing cells for gender selection, just like in the IUI option. However, as opposed to injecting the sorted sperm trans-uterine, female partner’s eggs are taken out and the sperm is injected directly into the nucleus of the egg for fertilization. In other words, IVF+ICSI does not let nature take its course, but rather, does the job in the lab environment.
IVF treatment requires that the female partner uses stimulation medication in order to produce a higher count and quality of eggs in a given menstrual cycle. It is through this medication protocol that we are able to obtain a higher count of eggs in order to increase your chances of pregnancy.
Accuracy for gender selection is still around 75% for a boy and 90% for a girl. However, pregnancy rates are considerably higher than IUI since IVF procedures allow for multiple eggs to be fertilized and transferred back into the uterus.
3) IVF with PGD for Gender Selection
Alternatively, there is PGD which is a genetic testing procedure done once the embryos are created. It allows us to identify the gender with 99.9% accuracy as well as screening for most common genetic disorders, making sure your baby does not possess a serious genetic condition. This method is a bit more expensive compared to MicroSort IVF but is more accurate. Gender selection through PGD works just like conventional IVF, where eggs and sperm are fertilized in the laboratory environment. Then, embryos are placed in an incubator for optimal growth. Once the embryos reach the 8-cell growth stage (usually day 3 after fertilization), biopsy is performed where a single cell is retrieved from each embryo for diagnosis. This biopsy allows us to test for certain genetic conditions and determine the sex. Apart from the sex of the baby, we test chromosomes X, Y, 13, 18 and 21, which are the causes of almost 90% of all genetic-linked abnormalities. However, in this option, the specimen is used without MicroSort.
4) MicroSort IVF with PGD for Gender Selection
Combining MicroSort and PGD is the best gender selection method there is, and is only offered at our clinic in Northern Cyprus. This method combines the benefits of both MicroSort and PGD technologies in an optimal manner. MicroSorting makes sure that majority of the sperm is sorted into the cells that will produce appropriate gender. PGD will further provide increased accuracy for gender selection and provide a gender selection accuracy of 99.9% while also allowing us to screen your embryos for majority of genetic diseases. This option is best for patients above the age of 35 and those who have diminished ovarian reserves.
North Cyprus IVF Success Rates:
The below figures summarize the success rates for gender selection at North Cyprus IVF. It should be taken into account that success probability is based on test results and history of infertility.
Women aged between 21- 29: 84 percent
Women aged between 30-34: 64 percent
Women aged between 35-39: 58 percent

We do have alternative gender selection IVF treatment options at our clinic.
One of the available options at our clinic is microsort IVF. This technology allow us to sort the sperm into female and male producing cells with 75% accuracy for a boy and 90% accuracy for a girl. This is a rather inexpensive method, but it does not allow us to test for genetic disorders on the embryo and you should keep in mind that it is not a 100% method for sex selection.
Alternatively, there is PGD which is a genetic testing procedure done once the embryos are created. It allows us to identify the gender with 99.9% accuracy as well as screening for most common genetic disorders, making sure your baby does not possess a serious genetic condition. This method is a bit more expensive compared to microsort IVF but is more accurate.
The best gender selection method we are able to offer is combining microsort and PGD. We would be very happy to carry out treatment for you at ADA IVF Hospital in North Cyprus. I will provide you with some general details about our PGD treatment so you have the basic information and we can go on and discuss any questions you have.
PGD also helps to determine any anomalies of the embryo before being transferred. With PGD, several cases of abnormalities have been greatly reduced such as, Down’s syndrome, sickle anaemia, Marfan syndrome, Tay-Sachs, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, thalassaemia and other sever genetic abnormalities. PGD offers the possibility of choosing the best quality embryos which will be able to survive pregnancy and be born healthy.
The first important step is the tests required:
For female partner:
· Hormone blood tests: AMH, FSH, TSH, E2 and Prolactin
· Blood test to check: HIV, HBsAg, Anti-HCV
· Trans-vaginal ultrasound scan: Antral Follicle Count
The tests allow Dr Verda here to prescribe the correct dose of medication for you to increase egg quantity avoiding hyper-stimulation. These tests should be carried out on day 2, 3, or 4 of your period cycle to be accurate and within 6 months of the treatment date.
These tests can be carried out by some local GPs or any local fertility clinic will be able to assist. If these tests have already been done within the last 6 months please send the results to me for Dr Verda to review.
From the results the doctor will also be able to give you an accurate chance of success…everyone is different and so the tests are the best indicator for the doctor to advise.
For male partner: A blood test to check; HIV, HBsAg, Anti-HCV. Sperm analysis if required.
A brief outline of the process here at Ada Hospital:
The treatment process will follow the below schedule (though may be subject to change):
· Day 1 – First day of period
· Day 2 – Stimulation injections begin
· Day 9 – Fly to Cyprus
· Day 10/11 – Scan and Pregnyl hCG injection
· Day 13 – Egg and sperm collection
· Day 16 – PGD Biopsy
· Day 18 – Embryo transfer
We will send a prescription and assist in organising the medication needed before arriving in Cyprus. We will also organise a medication protocol so you know what medication to take and when to take it.
Dr Verda will also require a scan (or scans) to be carried out during the stimulation phase. She will confirm once the initial tests have been carried out.
Day 1 of your period marks day 1 of the treatment process. Injections are to be administered from day 2 and this stimulates multiple eggs to develop. Dr Verda will see you when you arrive in Cyprus and she will carry out a scan to check your eggs development. When the eggs are ready the hCG injection is administered. This stimulates the final maturation of the eggs in the ovaries. 36 hours later Dr Verda will collect your eggs and sperm will also be collected from your partner the same day. Following a sperm sorting procedure, your eggs are then fertilised with the sperm by the ICSI procedure and left to develop. The PGD biopsy is carried out after 3 days development (when the embryos consist of 8 cells). On the 5th day of development the best quality healthy embryos of your desired gender will be chosen and transferred.
Dr Verda will speak with you and give you her advice however the decision is yours as to how many embryos you wish to have transferred and can be made on transfer day once full details are known regarding the gender, quantity and quality of the embryos.
You can have a HCG blood test 12 days after embryo transfer or a urine test 14 days after transfer to see the results.
Your Time in Cyprus:
If you wish to come to Cyprus for the full treatment then you would need to be here on day 1 of your period and stay for approx 20 days. You can have the necessary tests carried out here (as noted above) and go on to have the treatment in this time.
If you have the stimulation at home then you will need to be in Cyprus for approx. 11 days. The longer you can spend in Cyprus the better for Dr Verda to monitor you however we can discuss dates no problem.

Hi, is it possible to undertake Microsort for gender section without IVF using a selected sperm donor from a sperm bank? I live abroad and I would need to travel to have the procedure done. I am particularly concerned as IVF is known to be relatively invasive and very psychologically and physically engaging and I would like to avoid it as much as possible. I am 36 of age, single and never been a mother and given my age and other factors, I would like to undertake the procedure the soonest possible. What would be the total cost, recovery period, success rate if I use donor sperm, and Microsort without IVF to conceive a girl? Are there any medication or injections I need to take and how long do I have to start preparing for the procedure?
